Welcome to the Team!

Here at The Working Unicorn, we consider every tradeswoman and supporting man as part of our family. Below you will find bios of some of our members and backgrounds on who our original unicorns were inspired by!

Syndi was our first nominee on the @TheWorkingUnicorn Instagram page! Syndi started in the trade later in life and says it was the best decision in her career. As a welder, Syndi has worked on piping projects in food plants, refineries, steel mills, lubricant plants, hospitals and schools. She has learned many life skills and met many wonderful people along the way. She encourages all ladies of all backgrounds to try a trade. When asked what her her top advice would be for women debating a move into the trades later in life, she said, “It’s hard but the rewards are much greater and everlasting.” Syndi is not only a great inspiration to other tradeswomen, but to future generations to come, including her four daughters who are incredibly proud of her and everything she has accomplished!

Erin Meyers Tradeswoman Drawing by The Working Unicorn

Erin is a young, talented tradeswoman I met on Instagram. She was nominated on the @TheWorkingUnicorn page by Syndi, who met her in welding classes where they became close friends. As a pile driver, Erin is one of the first people onsite and helps make sure every structure has a strong foundation. She has worked on a variety of scopes including high rises, bridges, and interchanges. Pile driving and caisson drilling are incredibly dangerous. Erin explains that “it’s rough, dirty, and satisfying all in one shot.” Erin has taught me a lot about what goes into building a foundation, one of my favorite topics being the ABI machines that drive 70′ sheets of metal into the ground. She has found a lot of inspiration from her Dad who actively creates opportunities for women, veterans, and the disabled. Erin is one of the hardest workers I have ever met and I am truly inspired by her motivation to learn, a sign she will go far in her career. A strong and beautiful woman inside and out, follow Erin and her journey on Instagram @_meyers_erin_!

Sam is the human, female representation of one of our two original unicorns! Sam is based off of the founder of The Working Unicorn, Cera Gariepy. Cera is a project scheduler that has worked in the semiconductor and renewable industries. As a queer, disabled woman in the industry, Cera works hard to make sure that a female voice is heard in every conference room and site gathering. Go to the About page to learn more about Cera’s story!

Dom is the human, female personification of one of our two original unicorns! Dom was inspired by a BLM, women, and gay right’s activist that Cera grew up with. At The Working Unicorn, we strive to make sure everyone feels welcome and included. We are all human and deserve to be seen. We hope to fill this page with many diverse tradeswomen as we grow!

Are you a tradeswoman that would like to join the team or would like to nominate one? Go to the Contact page and send us a message! We are looking to build a diverse page of strong women to inspire and motivate future generations to join!
